Helping welcome refugees to the UK

WELCOME BOXES is an excellent way for churches to get involved with refugees and asylum seekers in their local community and offer real, practical support to those in need. Trained volunteers deliver a box filled with small gifts and local information to refugees who have recently arrived in their local area, making sure they feel welcome as they arrive. The volunteers then continue to welcome the family or individual over the next three months, helping them to access support available to them and linking them in to community.

WELCOME BOXES IS A SIMPLE WAY TO MAKE A BIG IMPACT ON THE LIVES OF REFUGEES

The concept is simple. Trained volunteers from the local church deliver a WELCOME BOX filled with small gifts to the homes of recently arrived refugees. These volunteer 'Welcomers' are then able to offer friendship and make sure their new 'Neighbours' are connected with local services and community.

Welcome Boxes

1. Referral

Trained volunteers deliver a WELCOME BOX, filled with small gifts, to the homes of people who have recently arrived in the area.

Referrals can be made by other organisations or individuals in contact with the refugee or asylum seeker. Refugees and asylum seekers can also refer themselves.

2. Welcome

Welcomers (our volunteers) continue to visit their new neighbours (refugees and asylum seekers) in their homes and introduce them to the local area. They provide information about local groups and services and support asylum seekers to find a place to belong within community.

3. Integration

Welcomers can signpost individuals to any support they need from other local services, should they require it. Normally, Welcomers work with their new Neighbour over a period of three months to help them to integrate and find their feet.

- no refugee alone

We exist to see every refugee welcomed into the local community

Since coming to the UK, I have met some beautiful people. They did not know me but they helped me anyway. Over time I formed great friendships with these people and they made a huge impact on my life.
