“Before you, no one knocked on my door. Now I feel I have family”

Helping welcome refugees to the UK

WELCOME BOXES is an excellent way for newly-arrived asylum seekers and refugees to meet local people and find their way around the local area.

Trained volunteers deliver a box filled with small gifts and local information to refugees who have recently arrived in their local area, making sure they feel welcome as they arrive. The volunteers then continue to welcome the family or individual over the next three months, helping them to access support available to them and linking them in to community.

Are you a refugee or asylum seeker moving to Manchester, sheffield, derby, nottingham, leicester, oxford or london?

We want to meet you! Refer yourself, or a friend, today and make friends with local people when you first arrive in your new home.

Welcome Boxes

1. Referral

Trained volunteers deliver a WELCOME BOX, filled with small gifts, to the homes of people who have recently arrived in the area.

Referrals can be made by other organisations or individuals in contact with the refugee or asylum seeker. Refugees and asylum seekers can also refer themselves.

2. Welcome

Welcomers (our volunteers) continue to visit their new neighbours (refugees and asylum seekers) in their homes and introduce them to the local area. They provide information about local groups and services and support asylum seekers to find a place to belong within community.

3. Integration

Welcomers can signpost individuals to any support they need from other local services, should they require it. Normally, Welcomers work with their new Neighbour over a period of three months to help them to integrate and find their feet.

- no refugee alone

We exist to see every refugee welcomed into the local community

Since coming to the UK, I have met some beautiful people. They did not know me but they helped me anyway. Over time I formed great friendships with these people and they made a huge impact on my life.
